A Child Protection in Emergencies “Training of Trainers” workshop was held in Dakar, Senegal, from 25 to 28 January 2016. 26 participants attended the 3-day workshop from across Africa, representing UN agencies, international NGOs and donors, as well as independent consultants. Participants were equipped with the skills and knowledge to facilitate future workshops: familiarity with the range of CPWG training materials; knowledge of interagency training packages and awareness of relevant capacity building initiatives in their context.
At the end of the workshop, action plans were formulated. Regional Child Protection Advisors agreed to:
- Define roles and responsibilities when advising national child protection working groups on implementation of the interagency capacity building strategy;
- Share these defined roles and responsibilities with workshop participants by 31 March 2016.
Workshop participants agreed to:
- Engage in internal advocacy with national CPWG co-leads, aiming to drive forward or initiate the development of the interagency capacity building strategy.
- Provide a progress report on the reinforcement or development of the strategy by 31 March 2016.
