From 11-12 June 2014, a contextualization workshop was held in Rwanda. Ten members of the Child Protection Working Group, representing Save the Children, Plan International, World Relief, World Vision, UNICEF and UNHCR, explored the implementation of four minimum standards to the Rwandan context: Standard 1 on Coordination; Standard 9 on Sexual Violence; Standard 15 on Case Management and Standard 20 on Education. The workshop emphasized child protection work with displaced people.
Participants then further developed the child protection section of the National Contingency Plan based on the newly contextualized minimum standards.
At the end of the workshop, participants agreed to follow up with a second workshop in September to include government counterparts. Participants also agreed to implement the prioritized preparedness activities.
Child Protection Experts (Nicolas Martin Achard and Sara Lim Bertrand) from UNHCR and UNICEF facilitated the contextualization process.
